CALEA
The Lafayette Parish Communication District is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The District received its initial accreditation in 2009 and was re-accredited in 2012, 2015, 2019 and 2023. Currently the District is one of only three 911 centers accredited by CALEA in the State of Louisiana.
CALEA has developed a set of internationally recognized standards for public safety agencies. The accreditation process confirms that an agency has a commitment to professional excellence and high-quality service delivery to the community through comprehensive policies, procedures, and training that are regularly reviewed and assessed by CALEA’s independent experts; essentially signifying that the agency operates at a high level of accountability and best practices within the public safety field.
Special Achievement in GIS Award
In August 2022, the Lafayette Parish Communication District was awarded the ESRI Special Achievement (SAG) in GIS award. This is an international award given for innovative GIS (Geographical Information Systems) solutions that solve real world issues. Annually, there are approximately 100,000 businesses/public safety agencies nominated for this award and only 200 agencies receive the award.
With geographic information system (GIS) mapping software, public safety agencies gain a deeper understanding of where to focus efforts. With real- time data-driven insights aiding mission-critical decisions, departments can respond to keep communities safe. These organizations which are presented this award set new standards throughout the GIS community.
